I agree with you Michael, although I believe that your initial Posts do add interest to the site. Maybe we should read the Heading once in a while and remind ourselves that the challenge is a "HANDWRITING" transcription. The Grumpy one !!!
While the clues do take away slightly from the "only look at the handwriting" aspect, it is rare that a person looks at a document with no reference at all. I'll probably stay with the short sentence or two--partially as I know a few use those clues to do searches of online databases in an attempt to make a better interpretation.
Amherst Co., VA is my clue. I say Ambrose Rucker.
