My Son Can Get Hitched

This is the signature of the father of the groom on a marriage in 1798 in Virginia. Another of my 6th great-grandfathers.

  1. Johen Sledd is my guess.

  2. I'm taking a second look and now I think it is Johen Hidd.

  3. John Head ... but I know it isn't.

  4. I would transcribe it as Johen Sledd. Final "d"s often weren't made like ones in the "middle" of a word. It is pretty clear there is a letter before the final "n" in his first name. Every other document lists him as John and I'll try and post the rest of this document later today as it's really an interesting one.
