My Rebel Husband

This Confederate widow applied for a pension from the state of Virginia in 1888.

  1. Well, the way I see it, it SAYS Charlotte Sledd, but I'll bet her last name is really Stedd. And SURELY the "l" in her first name is not a "T" in spite of it having a tiny cross bar on it!

  2. I agree with Bobby Gail.
    Charlotte Sledd
If my memory serves me correctly this surname has appeared before!!

  3. I think it's Charlotte Hedd. I know the crossbar on the H is hardly visible, but I still think it's Hedd.

  4. I'll go for Charlotte Sledd but think that what Judy said about the first letter of the last name being an H is also a possibility.
