I would say John Daymoss.
John Daymoss - maybe( Sounds like Demoss ?? )
Tom's got what I would guess - that old method of writing a double 's' so that it looks like 'fs' - in other words, John Daymoss.
John DaymossI my beginner days, I read a census that enumerated many families of "Baps!"
Daymoss or Dagmoss
John Daymoss is it.The name is actually DeMoss, but the spelling indicates how it likely was pronounced in 1830. This census is interesting--John Daymoss and Christianna Rampley are brother and sister. Crispin Treadway, shown on this enumeration as well, came with the DeMosses and Rampleys to Coshocton County, Ohio, in 1817, per Hills later Coshocton County history. And James Shores was a son-in-law of Christianna Rampley.
