What's the Item Underlined in Red?

What is this item from an early 19th century estate settlement in Ohio?

  1. A Clevice, used on a farm to hook a chain to something else, like a wagon or a tractor.

  2. One Clevice

It is used on tractors, also sometimes spelled clevis. It is a connector piece for something that is hauled.

  3. One Clevice is what it is.

Thanks guys for giving more than just a transcription--I'm certain that there were some who wouldn't know what a clevice was without Googling it. We'll have to post some more unusual items in the future.
